The fourth work in a seven-part cycle drawn from the chakra system, the Sanskrit चक्र (cakra) "wheel" denoting the body's revolving centers of subtle energy. This is अनाहत (anāhata), "sound produced without touching two parts" and it sits at the exact middle of the ladder: three below it that are body, appetite, and will; three above it that are voice, sight, and light. Nothing crosses from one register to the other except through here. Its element is air. Its work is the two-way traffic of giving and receiving.
