Collection: 0001: Challenger Disaster

Dr. Michael Harrison, the Charon Directive’s fearless leader, accomplished the first successful field trip without massive side effects.  This first successful jump landed Michael at the site of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986.  Dr. Michael Harrison volunteered to do the jump after the technology had failed with a great number of early threaders due to a glitch in Lisa Berman’s software. No one was seriously injured in these failed field trips but people were definitaely traumaticed to the point of hospitalization.  Following the insights from his field trip,  Michael reached out through his contact network to the head of NASA, warning him of the possibility of the disaster. It is not known if NASA listened to the warning.  Conspiracy theorist are convinced the astronauts were never put on the shuttle and this warning would explain why.  NASA would still need the shuttle to fail so the cause for the disaster could be determined and fixed, but human life would not need to be sacrificed given the warning.
